Eligibility, award details, and timeline.
SGITEF scholarships provide RM10,000 per year, up to RM40,000 over a maximum four-year course, for eligible Malaysian students in academic or vocational courses.
Scholarship Objective
- To provide scholarships to deserving students only in the lower income B40 group who have secured a place in a university or vocational college.
Scholarship at a glance
- Scholarships up to RM40,000 each for both academic and vocational courses.
- Open to all Malaysian students.

- Opening date for 2024 applications is Thursday, 1 August 2024 for STPM students who wish to apply to join vocational colleges.
- Last date of submission for STPM students is Saturday, 17 August 2024.
Who is eligible to apply?
- Must be a Malaysian citizen.
- Age between 17 and 21 at the time of application.
- Offered a place at a recognized university or college.
- Taking a recognized academic or vocational course.
- Not holding other scholarship awards.
- Household income not exceeding RM40,000 a year.
- For 2024 intake into university or vocational college only.
Academic and course requirements
- A pass in Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) or Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM).
- For studies in Malaysia only.
- For first-degree, first-diploma, or vocational courses only.
- Course must be recognized or approved by the relevant Malaysian authority.
Scholarship Details
- RM10,000 per year.
- Total scholarship ranges from RM20,000 to RM40,000 depending on course length, from 2 years to a maximum of 4 years.
- At least two scholarships per year will be awarded where possible, depending on funds available.
- Applicable for both academic first-degree and vocational courses.
- Tuition fees and any surplus will be paid directly to applicants as living expenses.
- Subsequent payment is conditional upon the student passing semester examinations.
- Unlike a PTPTN loan, the SGI Scholarship has no repayment requirement.

Supporting documents
- Identity card.
- SPM or STPM result slip.
- Parents income tax, salary slip, or letter from Pejabat Penghulu Mukim.
- School testimonial.
- Photograph.
- University or college acceptance letter is not needed at application stage and will be requested if successful.
Selection process
- Step 1: Short-listing based on information in the application form. Only shortlisted candidates will be called for interview.
- Step 2: Personal interview with the Selection Panel at SMK St. George, Taiping, or online via Zoom.
- Step 3: Provisional offer to successful candidates pending acceptance letter from a university or vocational school.
Award and disbursement
- Candidates will be advised by WhatsApp or email whether they have been provisionally granted the scholarship.
- The scholarship will only be disbursed when proof of acceptance by a university, college, or vocational school is provided and the Scholarship Agreement is signed.
Scholarship Timeline
- July 2024: Expected results of STPM.
- 1 August 2024: SGI Scholarship opens for applications.
- 17 August 2024: Application submission closes.
- Mid August 2024: Interview of shortlisted candidates.
- Early September 2024: Successful candidates notified of provisional acceptance.
- Mid September 2024: Signing of Agreement and disbursement of fund.
